Jim, Does equipment intended to be connected to the lighter have to conform to the automotive transient immunity requirements (ISO 7637/ SAE J1113) in its own right i.e. not assume the power to the lighter is a 'clean' supply?

My involvement is tangential at best, but my understanding is that the effort is not going to be coordinated as a grand simultaneous roll-out. Rather each mfr of cars, trucks, boats, etc, will get around to it based on their own needs. The drivers for this effort vary widely - vehicle emissions, increased electrical loads, drive-by-wire technology, etc. - and the 42Vdc agenda for a given mfr is to some extent determined by the agenda for those features or regulations. There is much technology still to be developed and much standardization work still to be done, but the work is well in progress. Is there anyone on the forum who has a more inside view of this and can share some information with us? In the meantime, have a look at the web. Searching on "42V" can yield a lot of hits.
