A while back I attempted to compile a list of standards (etc) that
generically address symbols &/or markings. I omitted product-specific
standards which may reference, modify or complement these. May not be up to

operation of equipment and packaging information. Reference information is
provided to assist the user in finding suitable graphic symbols. It is not
intended for the purpose of reproduction and symbols defined are not

colours and supplementary means for indicating devices and actuators. Meant
to: help the with the rapid recognition of operating conditions and
actuator positions; help with the proper monitoring, operation and
maintenance of the equipment; increase the safety of persons, property
and/or the environment through the operation and monitoring of the
equipment. Coverage includes definitions, indicating devices and actuators.

SAFETY COLOR CODE
Gives the technical definitions, color standards and color tolerances for
Safety Colors, and the applications of these Safety Colors to specific
purposes in connection with accident prevention.

Gives guidance for those people who wish to alert persons to potential
personnel injury hazards or property damage hazards inherent in the
environment or facility under their control - these include industries,
commerical establishments, property owners and employers.

CRITERIA FOR SAFETY SYMBOLS
Outlines general requirements for design ,evaluation and use of safety
symbols for identification and warning against specific hazards, and to
provide information to avoid personal injury. To promote the adoption and
use of uniform and effective safety symbols for safety communications is
the purpose of this Standard. A procedure for evaluating image
effectiveness in communicating the intended message, as well as
considerations for graphic design of symbols is provided.

Gives performance requirements for the application, use and design of

ACCIDENT PREVENTION TAGS
Specifies criteria for the design and use of accident prevention tags to
identify temporary hazards. Not to be used in place of a permanent sign
intended for hazards in normal use, maintenance or operation.
