Dear All If I may correct the address given below slightly: I believe that it should read:
europa.eu.int/eur-lex/en/com/pdf/2002/com2002_0759en01.pdf The 'en' directs you to the English language bit of the site. Also, if I may augment what John Woodgate said earlier. I agree that the CE Mark certainly is for the benefit of customs officials and regulatory authorities but the consumer is also very much the target. Living here in Europe (and having to endure the occasional consumer programme on TV) I can vouch for this! A few years ago we were forever having it drummed into us what the CE mark meant and that we should always look for it when purchasing a product. Depending on which type of product you buy the consumer nowadays sometimes (mistakenly) also takes this to be a sign of product quality. Certainly as far as the R&TTE Directive is concerned this is very much not the case! Taking up another point made by a contributor; different Directives did indeed mandate different rules about where the CE mark needs to be placed. This is why you could see it anywhere and everywhere! Neil's pointers below are the best guide. Best regards, John Roche Patton & Associates (UK) Ltd.
