Ron,

I found a more up to date URL for what's happening to the LVD which seems to
be open to all (it didn't ask me for a password). It can be found by
following:

http://europa.eu.int/comm/enterprise/electr_equipment/lv/direct/review.htm

By looking at LVD.3 you will be able to see that not only are the lower
voltage limits proposed to be eliminated but also:

- the list of exempted equipment is different (folks making equipment for the
police and military should look to see if their products could be covered in
the future);

- components are treated differently;

- the approach to standards is different;

- the information requirements are different

- the essential requirements are now FAR more detailed.

Of course, as I mentioned in an earlier Email, all these items are liable to
change between now and when the revised LVD is finally published. In fact,
there was a meeting earlier in June 2003 where the essential requirements were
tweaked (but in the fine detail rather than substantively). Another meeting
is planed for later this year where some of the other items listed above will
be further revised.

Have a wonderful weekend...
