Alex, in the US there appears to be a hole in the testing scheme for
aftermarket automotive products. If the product is to be installed on the
original equipment (i.e., the car) then there are very stringent automotive
industry standards that must be complied with both in the US and in Europe.
For aftermarket products (which yours appears to be), then I believe that
the Automotive Directive is sufficient for Europe although the Directive
does not contain a very demanding test suite. In the US they are exempt
>from FCC regulations and the auto manufacturers never see them. This is the
hole I mentioned earlier.
If I am driving in residential areas, however, I would be much more
comfortable with emissions that met European Class B or FCC Class B.

Hi Forum,
Does the North American market require Automotive EMC similar to the
European Automotive Directive?
I am thinking about an ITE small product that meets the European Automotive
Directive being sold in the USA/Canada. It already has the FCC Part 15 EMC
Class A.
Also, will using the same cigarette lighter cable be OK?
