Whether the unit is going for field trial or permanent deployment you had
better have made sure that the unit complies with the requirements of the Low
Voltage Directive if the product is mains powered, or if the equipment is
terminal equipment as defined within the R&TTED - irrespective of the supply
voltage. If you are claiming conformity with the LVD (or R&TTED) because you
are meeting Harmonised Standards then, for safety, you need to have checked
that you comply with:

      EN 60950:1992 inc A1+A2+A3+A4+A11; or EN 60950:2000; or EN 60950-1:2001
and
      EN 60825-1 inc. A11+A2
and
      EN 60825-2:2000

You talk in the same sentence about Class 1, a term defined in IEC/EN 60825-1
and also SDH, which is presumably a fibre-optic communication system covered
by IEC/EN 60825-2.  Perhaps you mean that the optical emitter inherently meets
the AEL for Class 1 as per IEC/EN 60825-1 and therefore your product
automatically meets the requirements for Hazard Level 1 per IEC/EN 60825-2
without the need for Automatic Power Reduction (APR)?  You should also
remember that, just because a device is Class 1 per the CDRH requirements
applicable in the USA, it does not mean that it will be Class 1 per IEC/EN
60825-1 because of the need to consider fault conditions in the latter
documents.
