I have found that using a combiner and a second antenna located some appreciable distance from an EUT allows for substantial cancellation of ambients. Phase and amplitude may be dealt with by rotating and moving the ambient antenna for a good notch. This is ONLY effective for one ambient, of course, but it IS an expedient an examiner might accept. At a previous (now defunct) employer I had started before I left to build a slotted line to use with a combiner for a permanently installed ambient notcher, the idea being to have presets for any of the ambients we had to deal with. However, the effect this has on site calibration makes managers nervous, as it DOES require convincing the approving agency that one's normal measurements will be unaffected.
