Are there any special tests required or recommended before installing 19-inch rack form-factor Information Technology Equipment (ITE) in an aircraft's rack?
Our sales organization wants to sell some information storage equipment (47CFR15 and EN55022 Class A) to a customer who desires to install our equipment in a 19-inch rack within their aircraft. I don't know of any extra emissions limit standards, but I have heard that aircraft manufacturers do test their systems to higher radiated immunity standards since many of the planes now "fly by wire". In addition, I would be concerned about the shock, vibration, tilt, and temperature/humidity ramifications. Hopefully the equipment would be mounted and operated in a portion of the aircraft that is pressure and climate controlled as opposed to the uncontrolled cargo hold. Does anyone have some mandatory or recommended test standards for these ElectroMagnetic Compatibility, Safety, and Environmental concerns? Thanks. Monrad L.
