We (TUV Rheinland) are an NRTL, and we have evaluated to this standard and also the related / parent standards, IEC61511, IEC 61508 (EN 61508) and their predecessors. Note, although OSHA recognizes the relevance of [then] ANSI/ISA-S84.01 to their PSM standard (29 CFR 1910.119), as well as to other situations, http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp show_document?p_table=INTERPRETATIONS&p_id=23722 , it is not one of the test standards recognized for _listing_ under their NRTL program. FYI, the number format has changed (no 'S'), and will change again. ANSI/ISA-84.01-1996 - Application of Safety Instrumented Systems for the Process Industries Also, a new version of the standard was recently approved by the committee (1 negative vote, appeal pending). Earliest publication as an ISA standard is probably at least a few months away, and after that, 1 to 4 months for ANSI publication. New edition as approved is based closely on IEC 61511. I am told there are "minor changes" from the IEC edition, and that it adds (in foreword?), a grandfather clause for existing installations already complying with the 1996 edition, wording based on that of related OSHA regulation (except that "SIS" replaces "equipment".) Assuming it is published this year, it would then be known as ANSI/ISA-84.00.01-2004 (note, some extra 00's). Title would change to "Application of Safety Instrumented Systems for the Process Industries (IEC 61511)". Plan is to publish in three parts, corresponding to IEC 61511-1 through IEC 61511-3.
