Hello List Persons, I am curious to know what the term "Professional Equipment" is when applied to certain EMC standards. Specifically, there is a standard, EN 55103-2 with a title of :
ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY. PRODUCT FAMILY STANDARD FOR AUDIO, VIDEO, AUDIO-VISUAL AND ENTERTAINMENT LIGHTING CONTROL APPARATUS FOR PROFESSIONAL USE. IMMUNITY Then there is a similar standard, EN 55020 with a title of: SOUND AND TELEVISION BROADCAST RECEIVERS AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT - IMMUNITY CHARACTERISTICS - LIMITS AND METHODS OF MEASUREMENT What I want to know is where does the term "Professional Equipment" come from, who defines it, and how is it applied? Let's say I make a very high end product, too expensive for the average consumer, maybe installed by a trained installer, has high power consumption requirements. It may end up in a home, probably as in a "home theater" or "sound studio", but again not in the average consumer's residence. Can I arbitrarily call this professional equipment, maybe because of the price tag or power consumption? What about if I recommend dedicated power circuits be provided for this equipment?
