May be time to rewire your house? UL has issued a bulletin dated March 31,
2004.
(A day later, and I might not have believed it...)

I don't have the bulletin itself to hand, but the title of the announcement
is,

"UL Announces the Withdrawal of the Standard for Porcelain Cleats, Knobs,
and Tubes, UL 511"

Scope of Withdrawn Standard:
These requirements cover insulating cleats, knobs, and tubes for the
support of
conductors of open wiring or concealed knob and tube wiring of
circuits involving
potentials of 600 volts or less, in accordance with the National
Electrical Code, NFPA 70.

These requirements do not cover split knobs and multiple-wire cleats
for conductors
larger than No. 4 AWG (21.2 mm ), solid knobs for conductors larger
than No. 4/0 AWG
(107.2 mm ), knobs not intended 2 2 for over-surface wiring, or tubes
having an
internal diameter greater than 2-1/2 inches (63.5 mm).

(On the plus side, I guess anyone still with gas lighting can go straight
to using NM cable, I bet they are glad they didn't jump on the bandwagon
and install that newfangled knob & tube stuff when it came out. Always pays
to wait!)

PS: In case you were wondering, I checked, it's now at 6th edition, 1994.
First edition was November 1937.
