Dear listmembers,
I am looking at UL 2075 and UL 2017 for a couple of
different products but I have no experience with
either standard, so I have some questions.
UL 2075:
I am attempting to work my way through UL Subject
2075, proposed standard for Gas & Vapor Detectors &
Sensors.
Clause 4 is "Alarm, Sensor and/or Detector
Reliability Prediction" and has requirements for a
maximum failure rate per MIL-HDBK 217F. Has anyone on
this list had experience with product submittals per
UL 2075? Is the MIL-HDBK 217F requirement applied
across the board to all submittals?
The scope says this standard covers everything
>from "Sensors & sensing circuits intended for use . .
. within full cell systems" to "Detectors intended
solely for control of ventilation or shutoff devices
such as fans or control valves", so I can see where
the reliability issue would be very big for sensors
that go in hazardous locations or explosive
environments, but what about sensors like a carbon
monoxide monitor that goes into a parking garage and
isn't there for life-safety purposes but is more of a
running-car detector so the garage ventilation system
knows when to turn on?
UL 2017:
This is more of an academic question, but does
anyone on this list have experience with UL 2017,
Standard for General-Purpose Signaling Devices &
Systems? How easy is the standard to work with? Is
it pretty obscure, or is it fairly well-known in
certain industries?
