There are also compoents in the phone that can demodulate, the microphone and the telephone chip (assuming that's inside the phone) being the most likely candidates. Other than putting line filter (a ferrite toroid or clamp-on ferrite may do) to attenuate RF coupled to the line, you may consider bypassing the microphone with a ceramic cap (soldered directly on the microphone temrinals). Handset cords can pick up RF and microphones can demodulate it (strongly). You'd probabaly need to know more details about the inside of the phone to do any board-level mods, which seems to be out of your scope.
