Please do not take these dimensions as gospel, but verify them for yourself. The design of pumps is such that in modern 'high level' pumps the electronics are located above the hazardous area, and the electronics compartment is sealed from the hazardous compartment below where the motors and meters are located. In this way only the motors and meters have to be certified for ATEX or its international equivalents. Hence, if your POS terminal is located at the same level and in the same compartment as the rest of the pump electronics, then you will not have a problem. However, if your POS terminal is hand-held then you have no control over its location relative to the Hazardous Area, and would have to certify it for ATEX and/or its international equivalents. If you venture down the certification route it is well worthwhile obtaining an IECEx scheme ATR (Assessment and Test Report) as well as your ATEX report and certificate as this will greatly simplify your certification process in most other countries around the world. North American certification does require additional assessment to the requirements of the NEC/CEC (National/Canadian Electrical Code) and may require assessment to national standards, although both UL and CSA are accepting the IEC 60079 series standards for most applications. This can be either hand held or part of the petrol pump casing. I'm particularly interested in Europe, South Africa and North America. THANKS !!
