Doug:

I believe the waveforms would be very similar in their waveshape for the
initial peak current. The IEC 61000-4-2 specification requires you to
verify the waveform at the initial peak current and the 30 and 60 ns
time intervals. The ISO 10605 spec has the verification of the waveform
at the initial peak current and requires the measurement of the RC time
constant. If you compare the initial peak current readings for both
specifications, they are basically the same value.

The main difference between the two specs is the different RC networks
required for testing. This is where the waveshapes will differ. The
ISO 10605 specification relates to the ESD events in Road Vehicles
whereas the IEC 61000-4-2 spec relates to ESD events in many electrical
components/systems. The IEC spec calls out an RC network of 150pF/330
ohms where the ISO spec calls out 330 pF/2000 ohms and 150 pF/2000 ohms.

Can any one tell me if ISO 10605 is technically equivalent to IEC
61000-4-2?
Is the discharge waveform the same?

Thanks,
Doug
