UK draft guidance says: Equipment that is part of another type of equipment or system is considered to be outside the scope of the Directive where it does not have a direct function outside the other item of equipment.
Several analogies used have been: The integrated car radio - would not have to comply with RoHS as it is part of the car. A Laptop PC used in military or other exempt product - would have to comply because it can function outside the exempt host equipment. Sounds like most of your peripherals would need to comply but as I guess you buy them in then I would suggest they will be commonly available in RoHS form. Whether you ship with the host equipment or separate has no bearing. At this time Categories 8 & 9 are exempt from the RoHS Directive. However, we ship computers, scanners, routers, power cords, etc with our equipment. Sometimes these peripherals may be shipped separately from the main equipment. Questions: Do these peripherals need to be RoHS compliant? Is the requirement different if the peripherals are shipped with the main equipment or separate? What supporting documentation must be shipped if the peripherals are exempt? Is there a specific section of the Directive or Guidance Documents that explains this situation? All responses are greatly appreciated.
