Ed, You are spot on! I have received confirmation from a ferrites manufacturer that the storage temperature is dictated by the packaging (tape and reel). Apparently storage outside the recommended temperature range - if the packaging survives - leads to less reliable soldering. Thank you for all your responses on and off line. Kind regards - Chris

OOO! It may have to do with the packaging. If the chips are tape-reel packaged, then there might be temperature extreme issues with the adhesive or the tape material, not the chips themselves.
