XP no longer directly addresses ports.  Don't know if this
affects you, but probably does.  It is my understanding
that any software written for direct access will fail.  

Try the usenet groups..
  comp.os.ms-windows.programmer.win32
they probably know all the "workarounds"

You can gain access to the groups through google.
