Normative = compliance with the standard in which a normative reference is quoted requires compliance with the normative references. For example, if you want an electric kettle to comply with EN 60335-2-15 then you must ensure that any connectors you use for the mains cord comply with the appropriate standards for connectors listed in the normative references of both EN 60335-2-15 and EN 60335-1 Regards Nick.
