In the UK 2 way switching denotes that there are 2 switches controlling one
outlet i.e. a lamp.
If there are more, i.e. on landings of a staircase where there could be
three or more these are usually referred to as intermediate switching.
Hope that helps

Now *that* confused me! (Although it may be I've taken too much Prozac
today!)
What are being called "3-way" and "4-way" switches I would call both of them
"2-way" switches, as they both only have "On" and "Off" positions.
I suppose I might say "3-terminal" or "4-terminal" switches, or more likely
"single-pole double throw" and "double-pole double throw" (SPDT and DPDT)
but not 3-way and 4-way.
Is it just me and the Prozac having an off day? Are such switches actually
called "3-way" and "4-way" everywhere (including here in the UK)?
If so, I must get out more...
:-)

Alan
