Richard, In Japan for the PSE within a circle Mark, there are two ways of compliance. One way is to meet the Japanese standards which have their unique deviations (such as W instead of A on ratings, production-line tests, etc.). The other method is based on Japanese standards harmonized with IEC standards. It looks to me that your importer has tested the product to Japanese standards which requires you to meet the production-line test requirements required in their standards. I would say ask the importer to specify the Japanese standard and get a translated copy. If you have any further questions regarding the Japan PSE Marking, please call me at TUV Rheinland of North America (925)-2499123 Extension 134 or e-mail at [email protected] Best Regards, Peter

We're being told that one of the requirements is for a dielectric withstand (hi-pot) test which must be conducted for one minute at 1000 V on all mixers. Each of these mixers is already hi-pot tested for compliance with UL requirements, but UL permits a one second test at 1200 V. The one second test is favored by the plant since it saves time. Our importer claims that the one second test is not permissible, that the test must be conducted for one minute. Since we don't have copies of the standards involved, do any of you have experience with these requirements and is it true that only a one minute hi-pot test is permissible? Thanks for any information you can provide on this subject. Richard I. Pittenger Agency Approval Engineer Food Retail Div.
