Scott, In this instance it is not mandatory to have e-marking, but it is mandatory to have automotive EMC compliance. The difference is that e-marking requires the involvement of a national regulatory authority; e.g. the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) in the UK. The e-mark number is unique to the device, and the first part of it denotes the country in which it is issued. Automotive EMC compliance merely requires you to have test reports to the relevant standards to support your claims of compliance. Best regards
