Hi Folks,

I have been in tears laughing at some of the replies! Nearly as many flowed
when I found out what Father-in-lay had done:-)

Too many replies to comment on but I am sure there is about to be a flurry of
wild experimentation from the comments I have seen.

One off-line comment was to micro old radio valves (remember those? Glass
FET's)

Of the more serious replies I particularly like the one from Rich Nute. He
points out that it is the fault of the microwave. Being a different technology
and not very well explained to the layman, it was likely that it would be
treated in the same way as any other source of heat.

Other forms of the same syndrome are that all engineers in the labs here seem
to assume that the 5V inside any electrical apparatus is a "safe" 5V, simply
because 5V "can't harm any one".
The fact that the designer placed the circuit inside an earthed metal box with
anti-tamper fastenings fails to provide a clue that everything inside the box
may be potentially fatal. It is taken for granted by the engineers that 5V is
going to be SELV or PELV and so will be suitably isolated from anything
harmful.

Giving training courses to enlighten the engineers only increases their
caution on the day after - soon slipping back to their old ways. :-(

Thanks for the replies and I will go to first-aid and get my sides bandaged:-)

Tim
