Hi all, We are currently designing an appliance for the gaming industry and looking for a suitable PSU. It appears that a lot of PSU’s are assessed against EN 60950 especially those for the PC industry. We have a couple of such PSU’s in mind with ‘SELV’ outputs but under EN 60335 there is a requirement that Safety extra-low voltage circuits shall not be earthed unless they are ‘protective extra-low voltage circuits’. Now most PC PSU’s I have used in the past have the DC output ground tied to protective earth. Does this mean that we cannot classify the outputs as SELV within the final product (if DC ground is earthed)? If so then do they become ‘Live’ parts even though they are double insulated from mains? Thanks in advance, Steve Thomas Design manager T1 Technology (UK)
