Forgot to mention another, less mentioned, failure mode -
INTERMITTENT CONNECTION
That's where the connection fails completely OPEN and then
repairs itself. Static measurements rarely catch this one.
But, data transmission will see it.
Or, like for me, burglar alarm indications saw it.
