Quite. The whole thing is a good example of EU stupidity. Industry has to bear quite a bit of responsibility, because there was very little industry input at the crucial early stages of the development of the WEEE Directive. The Greenies had a field day. In the same way, RoHS is based on disproved science. Intentionally or not, the researchers who looked for lead in landfill effluent chose an experimental methodology (using acetic acid, which forms the extremely soluble lead acetate) that practically guaranteed a positive result. A more realistic test, in a less acid environment, would show results several orders of magnitude smaller. This is **well known**, and 55 years ago, I learned it from an elementary chemistry textbook. It is the reason why lead pipes can be used to carry hard water safely, but not soft water. -- OOO - Own Opinions Only.
