882 is a system safety standard and HDBK-454 is an electronic equipment design
guideline. Your battery powered hand held radio is not really applicable to
882. If you apply 882 to your radio (unless I am missing something) the worst
mishap category would be IV or negligible and more than likely requires no
mitigation of the risk.

882 is normally applicable to a complex systems where somthing going wrong
results in death, serious injury or destruction. It allows you to define
potential mishaps and there likely frequency and make a decision on where the
risk is acceptable and define mitigating actions to reduce the risk to an
acceptable level.

454 is a design guideline that defines requirements for product safety,
soldering, connectors and the like used in electrical equipment.

Subject: MIL-STD-882 Safety Hazard Analysis

Group

I'm looking into what is required in carrying out a Hazard Analysis on a
small, battery powered, radio to MIL-HDBK-454.

Would anyone care to indicate the size/level of detail typically required
or point me in the right direction with examples.

regards
Charlie
