Counterfeits
It seems that much or most of the counterfeit electronics are coming from
Asia. Some of these products infringe on trademarks, copyrights, and patents
as well as having counterfeit safety markings. Some are downright unsafe. So
it appears that these manufacturers (management and engineers) are willing
to risk the life and limb of others for their own profit. While the threat
of legal enforcement can be a deterrent, it would be great if the people
involved could self-regulate by the use of ethics.
In the U.S.A. all engineering university programs that I know of include one
course on engineering ethics. The business programs also include an ethics
course. Obviously this has not completely solved our own
business/engineering ethical issues but it no doubt has made a dent. Have
many foreign universities added ethics courses?

This would seem the best course, but I expect it won't be long for
'genuine' RFIDs to be easily spoofed by the shop you mentioned. You can
bet there's already significant effort being thrown at this. Still,
this is one more step toward due diligence.

Also quite a good start. Perhaps in conjunction with another RFID.
