Hello Cliff,

We have found that a complaint CEC power supply to be larger in size and
more expensive then a noncompliant one as our power supply vendors have
to use better quality core material and the transformer ends up being
larger.

The cost is not insignificant if you have a large volume product which
uses a wall wart....

 Greetings,

The later implementation dates for the California efficency rules were
accepted, however the new deadline is coming up quickly. I'm trying to
determine, for the benefit of our purchasing group, what others have
found relative to the cost of a direct plug in type class 2 adapter (aka
wall wart) that complies with the efficiency limits vs. one that was of
the non compliant type.

Any info you can or would share is appreciated.

Best regards,

Dear Group,

The Californian standard on Power Efficiency is described in the
document: "2006 Appliance Efficiency Regulations"
There is a Table U-1 and Table U-2 on Power Supplies with implementation
dates:
Table U-1: July 1st, 2006.
Table U-2: January 1st, 2008.

However, I received another version where these dates have been changed
as follows: Table U-1: => January 1st, 2007. Table U-2: => July 1st,
2008. According to the info I obtained, these changes were effective
last April 2006. Does anyone know what the official dates are?

As always, thanks for your feedback.

Best regards,

Kris Carpentier
