Hi, (Hopefully this is not too far off topic) I'm an EE but a mechanical engineer designing a high current braided cable has 2 specs from the customer. One is simply the continuous current requirement of braided cable they want us to design and the other spec is a current rating 6 times higher but for a 2 minute duration. In both cases a maximum temp rise is specified. Since the cable has a continuous current rating from the manufacturer the first spec is a no-brainer. However, the second specification is beyond my abilities to anayze and in fact is probably quite complex. Even if I could figure out how to analyze the transient temp rise of a solid conductor a braided conductor is much more complex due to it's much larger surface area etc. Is anyone aware of a mil std or similar which addresses this issue?
