Further to what Neil described below, the US has recently adopted its own
regulations into the US Code of Federal Regulations as:

49 CFR Parts 171, 172, 173, and 175 - Hazardous Materials; Transportation of
Lithium Batteries; Final Rule

 

I believe it was published in the Federal Register on 9-Aug-2007.

 

Also, UN Document ST/SG/AC.10/11 is currently at rev 4, details the UN T1-T8
tests and can be found online.

Lithium cells and batteries themselves have the ID UN3090 and are subject to
Packing Instruction 903.

 

Lithium cells and batteries contained in equipment have the ID UN3091 and are
subject to Packing Instruction 912.

 

Lithium cells and batteries packed with equipment also have the ID UN3091 and
are subject to Packing Instruction 918.

 

PIs 912 and 918 both require that the requirements of 903 are met. PI 903
requires that the cells or batteries are tested according to UN Document
ST/SG/AC.10/11. Unfortunately I do not have that document, but I guess it
contains the tests that you refer to as T1 - T8. The document is available at
a cost of $10. Consequently, your first task has to be to obtain test results
for the battery asembly, otherwise none of the packing instructions can be
met. Once that requirement has been met, the rest of the PIs are fairly
straightforward, dealing with separation, prevention of short circuits, and
prevention of discharge during shipment. That latter requirement is to meet a
common requirement that no cell should be discharged to a potential of the
lower of either 2V or 2/3 of the undischarged voltage of the cell. Cells with
a voltage below these levels are forbidden from transport. The mass of Lithium
in your battery is well below any limits required. For further information,
consult the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. I hope this helps.

This is a little out of my expertise, need help---What would the testing and
packaging requirements be to ship international and US, a battery assembly of
2 cells with ELC of 2.7g, with the battery installed within the product?

 

Note: Found that the battery assembly has not been tested to UN T1-T8.

Subject: ANSI C63.4 Site Requirements Above 1 GHz

 

Hello Group

 

We have heard through the grapevine that ANSI C63.4 will be following CISPR 16
for site validation above 1 GHz. 

 

Does anyone out there have any additional information regarding whether or not
free-space OATS will be required per ANSI C63.4 in the near future? Imagine it
will if the site validation criteria follows CISPR 16. 

 

Does anyone know approximate timeframes for this if it is in Committee so we
can start making plans to enclose our OATS?
