[SNIP] A common misunderstanding is that a calibration may be carried out by calibration labs only. While carrying Or even that everything has to be calibrated. A test lab I refrain from naming built a spark gap/ tuned circuit to generate a damped sine wave. I am told, however, that a certifying organization objected to the fact that the network was uncalibrated, even though it required a calibrated oscilloscope to use. Those who have been in the (unnamned) lab may recall seeing it on a shelf with a tag inviting viewers to identify its function.
