Hi Tony,

not being a European, I'm not sure I can advise on the legal requirements. Had 
it been me assessing what I would do, I would treat the charging as another 
mode of operation. In this mode, what tests should apply? 

All the tests you suggested for sure, and I'd include the voltage dips too.

I can see eliminating some of the tests if were battery powered devices and 
non-chargeable. But as they plug in all apply.

This indicates one of my huge criticisms of the CE mark, i.e. it's an excuse 
not to build a rugged product.

I would check the Wall wart too: the ones I have tested have failed miserably, 
because they are tested by the manufacturer under conditions that favor them. 
Or the mark is just applied....

but I am getting conflicting advice – some say no need to test, some say as 
it’s plugged in for charging, it should be tested.

         

        Help! Opinions and advice most welcome.
