There will be a Northeast Product Safety Society / CNEC Product Safety Engineering Society meeting tomorrow, March 23rd, at the Holiday Inn, Boxborough MA. A social hour with light refreshments will begin at 7:00 PM and the technical meeting will start at 7:30 PM. Jeff Goldsmith, Principal Electrical Engineer at Water & Process Technologies division of GE, will present this month’s topic concerning the meaning of Short Circuit Current Ratings (SCCR) to meet the requirements of the NFPA 70 National Electrical Code. If you will be in the area, please feel free to join us as advanced notice or membership in NPSS or IEEE PSES is not required. Jeff Goldsmith has been the principal electrical engineer for the Water & Process Technologies division of GE since 2005. Previously, he was a senior electrical engineer designing water treatment equipment for Ionics from 1989 until its acquisition by GE. He is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts. He is an NFPA technical committee member, and is also active in the ISA and IAEI. Jeff will discuss the NFPA 70 National Electrical Code SCCR ratings on industrial control panels, motor controllers, and other power equipment. The principal design method for determining SCCR is Supplement SB of the UL 508A Standard. The presentation will cover the meaning of SCCR, and selection of electrical components to achieve a suitable SCCR for an electrical assembly. A technical presentation should be 45 to 60 minutes in duration and be related to product safety. Although the presentation may reference your company and it’s services, the presentation must not be simply company advertising. We would also appreciate any slides or handout materials be made available for posting on the NPSS web site. Releasing presentation materials for posting is desired but not a requirement to make a presentation.
