I have been in the testing business for the last 21 years.
So I personally would prefer more restrictions (testing requirements) like
the European model, testing any and all products from DC to daylight that
could cause potential interference. The truth of the matter is the people whom
care test, and the people whom don't care, don't test.
Maybe when I retire I will feel differently ;-).

If you like watching the quality of a Plasma TV, you are unlikely to listen to
AM radio ( there may be a DISPROPORTIONATE number of people on this list that
do ). Again, this means at the same time...
I imagine if any, let me makes that bigger IF ANY interference were to occur,
you would treat that like anything else that interfered...
Were talking probability. An imperceptibly small possibility of an event Vs a
100% guarentee of increased complexity and cost to get products to market.
Doesn't that raise hackles?
We need LESS restrictions not more. The next step will be to have ALL products
tested from DC to daylight!

But what portion of them listen to AM radio? That's under 30 MHz. And, as a
licensed user of portions of the HF spectrum I will be upset if I suffer

That may be, but what portion of Plasma TV owners have SW radios... and are
likely to be using them at the same time..
We should not be pursuing limits for Possible interference, only Probable.
Otherwise we would never be able to get stuff to market.. at a price a
consumer can afford.

I'm surprised that something as small as a plasma television receiver would
radiate effectively below 30Mhz, especially if
its mains conducted emissions are below the limits. Could it be the attached
cables that are the radiators and if so, then perhaps those
signal ports need a conducted emissions test.

The IEC/CISPR is being asked to look at standards for radiated emissions
below 30 MHz, instead! Large plasma TVs and electric vehicles are said
to cause disturbances in this frequency range due to radiated emissions.
Methods of measurement for magnetic field emissions are in some cases
already known, but the disturbances are said to be due to electric
fields.
If it was easy, it wouldn't be so fascinating. (;-)
