Gary, if zapping the microphone causes a latch up then there are other
problems which need fixing. This is the tip of the iceberg. Suspect ground
bounce.

        Performance Criterion B

         

        After the test, the equipment shall continue to operate as intended 
without
operator intervention. No dgradation of perfomrance or loss of function is
allowed, after the application of the phenomena below a PERFORMANCE LEVEL
SPECIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURE, when th equipment is used as intended. The
peformance level may be replaced by a permissible loss of performance.

         

        This is a surface problem you have to stick your finger very deeply 
into the
opening and since jamming your finger up to the first knuckle into the
micophone opening pretty much prevents you from using the equipment as
intended. Can the manual simply be updated to say don’t stick your finger in
here or you’ll lock up the recording handset?

         

        I’m not trying to avoid a quality product or anything like that I just
don’t want to put money to cure something that isn’t going to happen. Like
I said I know how to fix it and I will fix it if I really need to, it’s a
small tooling fix and/or a couple of components on the microphone lines.
I’ve already tested the fix and it works – just don’t want to do it.
