Everyone
The main event of the EMC Chapter of the UK and Republic of Ireland Section takes place on 2 July. Details below. Everyone is welcome, free of charge (except for the parking fee), but please be sure to register with Roy Ediss (e-mail details below). We have an IEEE distinguished lecturer and two other speakers. Those attending will also be able to visit the site of the World War 2 code breaking activities. I hope to see many of you there! Best wishes Brian Brian Jones EMC Consultant Chairman, UKRI EMC Chapter ________________________________ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Roy Ediss Sent: 23 June 2008 20:31 To: IEEE ukriemc Subject: IEEE EMC Soc UKRI special event at Bletchley Park. - Wednesday 2nd July 2008. - Update IEEE EMCSoc Event Notice. Information available on speakers and talks: Dr Alistair Duffy is Head of Division of Engineering at the School of Engineering and Technology, De Montfort University. He is a Distinguished lecturer for the IEEE EMC Society. Structured cabling. Our offices, and increasingly our homes, are wrapped in twisted pair cabling. It often does not seem as innovative as optical fibre or wireless solutions, yet the cabling that is ostensibly the same that carried signals of a few tens of kilocycles in the early days of telephony is looking towards handling 40 or even 100 gigabits per second. This lecture is a window on how this, often overlooked, technology works, its history and the challenges for its future. John Berrie is a Senior Consultant in the Partner Group at Zuken. In his presentation he will relate signal integrity to low power design at both the IC and board levels. David William Welsh is currently a Principal EMC Engineer working at York EMC Services Ltd. His education culminated in the award of a D.Phil. degree for work investigating cable crosstalk in 1992. His main interests as an EMC engineer are still concerned with cable crosstalk and coupling. Particular interests include measurements of Transfer Impedance on cables and connectors, Shielding Effectiveness measurements of enclosures and materials, consideration of crosstalk between railway power conductors and line-side cables. “Measuring transfer impedance in line with IEC 62153-4-6:2006/EN 50289-1-6:2002”; the talk will cover the following areas: 1) The need for Transfer Impedance (ZT) measurements 2) How ZT is defined. 3) Description of the line injection method for measuring ZT. 4) Description of the line injection jig as defined by the standards IEC 62153-4-6:2006 and EN 50289-1-6:2002 5) The injection circuit: a. How it is formed b. How its performance is measured 6) Measurements of coupling using the line injection jig 7) How the measurements of coupling are expressed as ZT. The event is an open meeting. All welcome. There is no charge for attendance.
