Hi Neil, I must disagree with you on one point. I am not aware of any EU directive allowing the CE marking to be less than 5mm in height, although Annex VII of the R&TTED provides some rather nebulous wording about that.
To all, And while we’re on the subject, CE marking requirements from directive to directive are not at all consistent. From what I believe to be 3 of the most utilized directives: Annex V of the EMCD: "The ‘CE’ marking must have a height of at least 5 mm. If the ‘CE’ marking is reduced or enlarged the proportions given in the above graduated drawing must be respected. The ‘CE’ marking must be affixed to the apparatus or to its data plate. Where this is not possible or not warranted on account of the nature of the apparatus, it must be affixed to the packaging, if any, and to the accompanying documents." Summary: (CE on product OR on packaging & documents) Article 10 & Annex III of the LVD: Article 10: “The CE conformity marking referred to in Annex III shall be affixed by the manufacturer or his authorised representative established within the Community to the electrical equipment or, failing that, to the packaging, the introduction sheet or the guarantee certificate so as to be visible, easily legible and indelible.” Annex III: "If the CE marking is reduced or enlarged the proportions given in the above graduated drawing must be respected. The various components of the CE marking must have substantially the same vertical dimension, which may not be less than 5 mm.” Summary: (CE on product OR on packaging or documents) Annex VII of the R&TTED: "The CE marking must have a height of at least 5 mm except where this is not possible on account of the nature of the apparatus. The CE marking must be affixed to the product or to its data plate. Additionally it must be affixed to the packaging, if any, and to the accompanying documents.” Summary: (CE on product OR ?, AND on packaging & documents) I would have thought that there would’ve been better consistency regarding the CE marking procedure specified in CE marking related EU directives. Currently we are producing a small sized product where we cannot keep the CE logo size at 5 mm. What is the minimum size recommended / prescribed in the standard for the CE logo. If the product cannot accommodate the minimum size prescribed then what is the alternate solution? Sincerely SCM Microsystems (India) Pvt. Ltd. K.
