Jim, 1. Yes, if you are shipping to Argentina another manufacturer's equipment and it already has an S-Mark and the original markings (manufacturer's name, model and tradename) have not changed, your importer, in order to release the products from Argentinean customs, must obtain an authorized copy (in Spanish) of the cert from the certifcation body which issued the S Mark. In order, to get an authorized copy of the cert, the certification body may request a letter from the original certificate holder. There is a fee associated with the authorized copy of the cert which your importer must pay the certification body. This authorized cert must be shown to Argentiean customs with every shipment. Please bear in mind, that if the market surveillance of the product in question was not performed or if the market surveillance did not pass due to some reason or other, the certification body may decide not to release a copy of the authorized cert. 2. Different certification bodies have different rules depending on their accreditations. For an S Mark a CIG-023 report is required or a factory inspection is done by the certification body. One or two of the certification bodies in Argentina require their own company's CIG-023 factory inspection report. The rest accept CIG-023 report from any CB NCB. If a factory inspection is a problem, you can always go with a Type approval Mark. This Mark does not require a factory inspection, but increases the frequency of the Argentina market surveillance. If we are re-selling another manufacturer’s product which already has the manufacturer’s S-Mark (an example might be a Dell, or Intel server), is it possible to leverage the manufacturer’s S-Mark for sales into Argentina. Is any action required on our part to satisfy the Argentine regulatory requirements, and if so, what? In other words, must we get permission from the S-Mark holder to utilize their S-Mark, and if so, what is the best way to do that? 2. If we are re-selling another manufacturer’s product which DOES NOT have a manufacturer’s S-Mark, what action must we take in order to meet the regulatory requirements in Argentina. Is possible to get an S-Mark for someone else’s product (a CIG023 factory inspection seems to be normally required). I appreciate any enlightenment that you experts can shed on this matter.
