Subject: [PSES] Military Equipment (front-line hardware) and compliance
certification

Ladies and Gentlemen.

I would like to know whether, in your country, there is a requirement for
Military Hardware to comply with the same legal requirements as the civilian
products.

For example – an American commercial digital device, such as a ruggedized PC
for use in the field, is required to comply with an FCC (?) requirement. If a
product designed and built only for the American Army is equivalent to a
ruggedized PC, does that also need to comply with the FCC requirement?

Please only reply if you know the answer with a 100% certainty otherwise I
will be left with some saying “yes” and some saying “no”!!

If the civilian law only applies to some category of military device – I
would still like to hear about these cases.

I am looking at all forms of legal requirements – not just EMC or safety but
also radio certification etc.

And finally, I know that in America there is Federal law and State Law and
that requirements might vary from State to State. Does this happen in your
country? If so how do State laws apply to military hardware?

Please reply directly to me so that the quantity of e-mail does not flood the
reflector. But is anyone wants the replies to be posted – please say so as
soon as possible!

Thanks in advance

Tim
