Interesting responses so far and a couple more suggestions including one
important sample from across the pond. While I agree this acronym is not
intended to be spoken, I nevertheless do so on a regular basis; as do many
others I know.

In an attempt to obtain a pronunciation from a non-emotional resource, I typed
“RoHS, RoHS, RoHS, RoHS” into a document and had my text-to-speech
program (TTS) interpret. It pronounced the word “Rose” with what I would
call a breathy sound just before the “s”. Apparently this was the
machine’s attempt to pronounce the “H” in the acronym. However, I would
not call this particular TTS an expert, it also pronounced “email” as
“em-e-el” with the emphasis on the middle syllable.

Subject: Friday question - RoHS

All,

“What is the correct way to pronounce the acronym RoHS?”

This little question has plagued me for several years and every time I think I
have it right, some professional comes along and says it another way. So, I
thought I would ask this esteemed group of individuals. I know of several
variants and there even may be more choices.

1) Those who spell out “R-o-H-S”

2) Those who say “Roe-Hoss”

3) Those who say “Rosh”

4) Those who say “Ross”

What is the consensus?

Thanks,
