In the context of UL/CSA60950-1, requirements for appliance couplers seem
to be contradictory. The standard cites 60320 for specific component
requirements, but makes general statements in annex P.1 that indicate the
component must be investigated to UL498.

EN60950-1 does NOT indicate UL498 may be used for any presumption of
conformity.

Subject: EN60320 vs UL498 appliance inlet

To all you safety knowledgeable peers,

We are trying to do a comparison between UL498 and EN60950-1 on an
appliance inlet, no fuses.

Can anyone get the ball rolling for us by relating if they are equivalent,
or if one is more stringent?

Since they are not harmonized, my first guess is that they have some non
reconcilable differences.

The bottom line may be, can we use a UL498 recognized part to meet the
requirements of EN60950-1 2nd ed.?

Thank you for any input.
