I suspect a bit of confusion over units of measurement. For all practical
purposes, 1.5 metres = 5 feet.

The PATIENT ENVIRONMENT is defined as within 1.5m of the patient (60601-1).
The idea is that patients cannot reach 1.5m without moving their body. I
don’t know where 5m comes from.

Hello Peter,

Could you please let me know where this 5 meters comes from? Many different
types of personal computers are used in the medical industry that will come in
close proximity to a patient that are not under the control of medical
practitioners, including many hand held IT devices .

Best regards,

Ron Wellman

Derek,

As long as it is 5 meters from the patient, it can be considered ITE

        Good day all,

I have been asked by a client to look into what requirements exist for a
device that will be installed on the wall of a Doctors office in Canada.

It has no patient contact, and essentially is a PC for recalling and
displaying patient information.

I can find loads of requirements for devices that attach to patients, or
attach indirectly for patients, but nothing thats benign like this.

Can anyone suggest what requirements exist please?

        Thanks,
