In regards to IEC 60950 and IEC 61010-1, I’m confused about the proper use
of IEC 60417 symbols 5017 and 5019.

The 5017 symbol (ground symbol without the outer circle) and

The 5019 symbol (with the outer circle).

We know to use the 5019 symbol where the Protective Conductor Terminal from
the Mains power cord connects to our metal chassis.

But internal to our equipment, what symbol do we use on conductors that
connect primary components such as line filters, power supplies, motors, or
accessible metal parts to the equipment base for safety purposes?

We generally use the 5017 symbol for these applications but the standard says
to use the 5017 symbol for “Functional Earth Terminals” for purposes
“other than safety”.

Please help me to understand.
