Brian and Ken, Thank you for the comments. From these I now get the reason why the statement showed up in our user manual. The product is enclosed in a housing that did not meet the fire enclosure requirements. This was all done before my time so am having to 'catch-up' with what was done and why. But your comments helped to clarify the background.
Thanks again. So either the manufacturer couldn't do, or wouldn't pass, this testing on the product; and as a result, a condition of it's use is that it can only be powered by LPS/Class II supply. > > -Ken A. > > > On Wed, Sep 16, 2009 at 9:07 PM, Scott Douglas <[email protected]> wrote: > > To All, > > I find this statement is a user manual: > > "This product is intended to be supplied by a Listed Power Unit, marked with “Limited Power Source,” “LPS” and “Class II” on the unit, and output rated ..." > > The product is usually approved to either ITE (60950) or to A/V (60065) standards. I am curious to know where this requirement comes from, specifically page, paragraph, and rule. I looked in both and did not find it. > > Can anyone point me to a source? > > As always, thanks in advance for your help. > > Kind regards, > Scott > > > > - This message is from the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society emc-pstc discussion list.
