We have been using a Schaffner NSG 2050 surge tester to perform both
mains and data line surges for a number of years. However the unit has
at times mysteriously become damaged such that it no longer delivers
surge current to the EUT even though you can hear the surge generator
charging up and apparently discharging.
It is suggested that the fault lies with the mains wiring at our
facility and that by running the tester on a filtered supply the mains
input to the generator may be subjected to over voltage.
Has anyone else had similar problems with surge generators and do you
normally run them on filtered mains supplies?
