They also provide low-noise preamps.

It depends on how often you use them and how careful you are with them. 
No doubt you are VERY careful, but not everyone is. Also, if one set is 
$X and another is $1.5*X, you can replace the cheaper one twice (perhaps 
with improvements) for every one replacement of the other one.

A bit more gain is always useful, even if not strictly necessary.
