Scott,

On the 12Vdc/230Vac inverters that I use in my cars, there is an earth
connection to earth the metal case of the inverter. This is connected to the
car chassis and it is also connected internally to the earth/Neutral of the
3pin plug. any item that requires an earth is then referenced to the car
chassis which has become the local earth for the system.

If the 230Vac powered equipment is taken outside the car environment, the
return path is still back to the chassis via the conductivity of the
soil/tarmac/concrete that the person and car are standing upon.

How many people would operate two inverters in a car (for different equipment)
and does this double the shock risk? What happens if the two items of
equipment are connected together (e.g. DVD player and TV in a motor-caravan
(mobile home))?

Regards
Tim

Subject: Intersting question!!

This mail has originated outside your organization,
either from an external partner or the Global Internet.
Keep this in mind if you answer this message.

In the Uk, regardless of class 1 or class 2 products, the product has to be
fitted with a 3-pin plug. How many users do understand the product required
earthing or not? If the answer is NO in general, how can the users be avoided
using below products incorrectly.

For example, the 12 V DC to AC inverter used in car. Normally this type of
product provides a socket accepting a 3-pin plug and has no earth connection.
How can the users be told not to plug in an appliance that requires earthing?
Is there any safety clause to govern this type of issue?

Thanks and regards,

Scott
