If ground were a safety measure, where would astronauts in the ISS space station connect their equipment to ??
Ground is just a common "common potential". The goal of grounding equipment is to connect all accessible parts to the same potential as most parts in the users environment. Grounding is thus a misleading word. In the ISS and in your car, that is the chassis. What provision is NASA making for a thick green/yellow wire from Earth to future Moon colonies? More seriously, I believe 'mooning' as a safety measure (as opposed to a social comment) will not be an option, because the regolith is substantially non-conducting. -- OOO - Own Opinions Only.
