It should perhaps have been published about 16 days later. After all, 
the HV power lines carry 3-phase AC, and there is very nearly no 
component of the magnetic field in the direction of the line. One would 
expect the animals to line up in a direction perpendicular to the line, 
and reverse their headings every cycle.

I am reminded of a very old 'research report' that claimed that homing 
pigeons were disoriented by MF radio antenna masts and circled round 
them. It was proposed in response to change the polarization to 
horizontal, thus inducing the pigeons to make vertical circles, half of 
which would be below the ground surface.
